One Family’s Mission in Uganda Makes Headlines in Austin, TX

Rescue One More’s founders were recently featured in this CBS Austin story about their family’s mission to help children in Uganda who’ve experienced sexual violence.
In early 2024, CBS Austin evening anchor Walt Maciborski and photojournalist Ryan Sullivan set up a makeshift studio in the Lambie’s living room to interview founders Scott, Vanessa, and Sarah.
Months later, they learned that what was supposed to be a 3-minute news segment turned out to be a 12-minute feature story, beautifully edited with powerful footage from Uganda. Later, they were told it had been expanded to a 30-minute special.
Click below for an in-depth look at how Rescue One More came into being and where the organization is headed.
This story first aired on Thanksgiving Day in 2024 during CBS Austin’s evening news hour.
Helping Children in Uganda
It’s hard to believe that less than five years ago, Vanessa decided to share her story in hopes of helping children in Uganda. Because of her courage, thousands of children are getting the safety, justice, and healing that were denied to her.
And now, her story is impacting even more lives than we could have ever imagined.
In fact, as of October 2025, over 800 child survivors have been helped. Nearly 300 children have been rescued from dangerous situations, including trafficking. Well over 500 perpetrators have been arrested. And over 80,000 people have been trained on prevention and awareness.
This just goes to show that when you shine a light on injustice, lives are forever changed.
You Can Transform Lives Too
Vanessa transformed her tragedy into triumph by choosing to act. You have that same power. Whether you share your story, volunteer, or advocate, your voice matters. Tell us about your story in the comments below or by sending your story to sarah@rescueonemore.com.
Thank You for Helping Us Help Children in Uganda.
