Creating Change, One Conviction at a Time

Changing the Story for Children,
One Conviction at a Time

I want to share a quick story that will probably resonate with anyone familiar with the roads of Central Texas. My family lives about halfway between Dripping Springs (AKA “Drip”) and Austin. Our kids go to school in Drip, and most of our commutes take us that way.

But we do head into Austin often, and let me tell you, this is a tale of two cities. The road from our house to Drip is notorious for speed traps. It’s a well-known fact: speed, and you’re getting a ticket. People rarely speed on that stretch of highway.

Going toward Austin, there’s this intersection called the “Y.” This is where drivers start testing their vehicles’ top speeds. Honestly, it’s a bit like a speedway from that point on—no speed traps and no one getting pulled over.

If a $200 fine can modify our behavior and slow us down, imagine the kind of change we can make when we apply that same principle to something much more serious, like the epidemic of child sexual violence.

Uganda has good laws and serious consequences for child predators, but enforcement is limited by corruption, lack of resources, coordination, and overwhelming demand.

In 2024, our teams partnered with the Ugandan government to arrest 221 perpetrators of child sexual violence.

Through our Community Action Teams, we’re keeping these individuals behind bars, often without bail. Even with a six-year backlog in the judicial system, we’ve pushed for expedited court dates, securing 7 convictions and several long-term sentences.

When we started this work, we never imagined we’d see such results.
And for that, we are profoundly grateful to God, our courageous teams, and you—our incredible supporters.

We believe that, like a vehicle slowing down, we can create lasting change in communities. With prayer, awareness, and continued intervention, we will see perpetrators held accountable, laws respected, and behaviors transformed.

Together, we can change the trajectory for countless children, one conviction at a time.

We are compiling our 2024 Annual Report which will dive deeper into how we’ve impacted the lives of the 307 children we were able to help in 2024. We can’t wait to share the full details with you!

If you’d like to learn more about our work and how you can help dismantle the child sexual violence crisis in Uganda, we’d love to hear from you. Shoot me an email or leave a comment here.
